National Computer Security Day

The evolution of computers over the past couple of decades is a stark one. We now utilize computers to do everything from research to staying connected. Considering that, many of us use our computers for very personal things such as working, banking, researching, and education. It is vital to protect our personal information, as well as that of our employer if we use our computers to work. Identity theft, fraud, and viruses are prevalent in the world and constantly pose a threat. Therefore, we must be diligent in learning all threats and taking the necessary precautions to protect ourselves and those we work for.

Keeping ourselves and our company safe has become a priority, and therefore National Computer Security Day exists. This day brings awareness to the many threats that exist, past failures, and how we can move forward as a society if we stay diligent in protecting ourselves. This is why companies now have Cyber Security departments to help protect and exploit systems put in place to cause harm. Cybersecurity is vital in the protection of residual risk and inherent risk. Cybercriminals are becoming more and more sophisticated, in turn increasing the risk associated with all potential threats. So how can we be a key player in protecting ourselves?

It is important first to become well-educated on common threats designed to steal data or hinder business processes. Because we are increasingly reliant on technology and it is forever evolving, we want to be aware that a lack of focus on threats to cybersecurity can have lasting, damaging effects. We must play an active role in computer security. To observe National Computer Security Day, NationalToday.com gives us a few steps to follow:

  1. Create strong passwords
  2. Keep your spyware and malware protection software updated
  3. Encrypt and backup data
