I work on a team that has created a cross-platform, 3D OpenGL-based interactive software application for monitoring and managing super computing clusters and the facilities housing them. Visible Enterprise Manager (VEM) collects health and usage information from the computers and supports hardware making up the clusters, as well as the air conditioners and power devices that maintain the computing environment, and displays this data on a realistic model of the facility as a simple color scheme. System administrators can use VEM to quickly spot problems and correct them. Managers can use VEM reporting tools to examine facilities usage information, load balancing statistics, and hardware performance characteristics.
We are now in the process of creating modules in support of gathering Cyber Intrusion information and visualizing it with VEM. I get the opportunity to develop on some very cutting-edge equipment. The software that we develop is in use today at several facilities, including ICTEE. It is very satisfying to see fellow employees using VEM to make their jobs easier. |
