Cool Jobs at COLSA Corporation

Glen, Acquisition Project Specialist Eglin Operations Technical Acquisition Management Services

“Over the years, I’ve worked for a number of companies, yet I have received more support and recognition in the few years that I have been with COLSA than with all of the other companies combined. Being selected as the Eglin AFB COLSA Manager of the Year for 2006 was a great feeling. Follow that up with two of the people from my office winning employee of the year over the past three years; it has been an exciting ride. In our office we have a saying, “One Team, One Dream.” The meaning to us here at Eglin AFB is that regardless your occupation, we have a purpose much higher than ourselves—supporting the US Warfighter. I believe that COLSA feels the same way about its team members and its customers.” -- Glen

Number of Years at COLSA: 3.5 yrs

As munitions test and evaluation specialists working for the 46th Munitions Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, we are responsible for the design, implementation, and documentation of weapons testing for all branches of the military and weapons contractors. Our expertise encompasses weapons development, existing weapons testing, weapons modification testing, and the testing of foreign weapons against American military assets, such as tanks, aircraft, or personnel.

As you can imagine, weapons testing covers a very broad spectrum. Each member of the COLSA weapons test team is hand-picked to perform specific testing. Dave S. is our Guided Weapons tester, specializing in testing the Joint Air-to-Surface Stand-off Missile. Mike S. has been the single point of contact for testing of the Small Diameter Bomb and the Focused Lethality Munition since their inception. Phil E. and Ken O. perform acceptance tests of nearly every type of ammunition in the US inventory. They are also responsible for testing any gun system that is or will be installed in US aircraft. Dave G. has reached beyond the bounds of the US Air Force and is currently working with the US Navy. The Navy Mine Roller program is all about saving lives. A countermeasure to Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), the Mine Roller attaches to the front of a variety of vehicles, protecting troops and vehicles from the devastating effects of IED explosions. Tom K. supports our Special Projects section. Testing unmanned flight vehicles and stinger missiles warhead lethality is all in a day’s work. Wayne “Hector” E. is probably the most important man on our task. He is in charge of the accountability for all of the munitions tested on Eglin AFB. I guess that leaves me, Glen B. It is my privilege to be the manager of these outstanding folks. My primary responsibility lies in the testing of foreign weapons that we have “acquired.” I can’t get into the specifics because mine really is one of those jobs where “I could tell you…but then I’d have to kill you!”
